Santa Monica : City Program Vies for Award
The city has entered its Homeless Outreach program in a League of California Cities competition that recognizes innovation or taxpayer savings in community services.
The program helps homeless people who do not usually use social services because of mental illness, substance abuse or isolation. The program served about 1,500 people last year.
Winners of the Helen Putnam Award for community services and other categories will be announced at the league’s annual conference in October.
