AND NOW HERE’S THE NEWS: Michael Hutchence, lead singer of INXS, will soon be on movie screens around the country as star of an upcoming Aussie film called “Dogs in Space.” The movie, which opens here in October, features Hutchence as the leader of Dogs in Space, a struggling bunch of unruly lads trying to make it in the late-’70s Melbourne rock scene. The film’s sound-track album, which will also feature songs from Iggy Pop and Brian Eno, will be released by Atlantic Records. . . . Who are the Dukes of Stratosphear, a strange new psychedelic band that is releasing a new album, “Psonic Psunspot,” on Geffen Records next week? Why none other than XTC in disguise--the record is another pet project of XTC’s leader Andy Partridge. Song titles include “Vanishing Girl,” “Collidascope “ and “Brainiac’s Daughter.” . . . And it’s not official, but our bet is that the producer of the next Bangles album will be Eric Thorngren, who’s produced recent albums by Squeeze and Peter Wolf and also worked with the Talking Heads and Eurythmics.
