A record 3 million people will visit Yosemite National Park this year, park officials predict. A mild winter, cheap gasoline and a weaker dollar are expected to encourage heavy park use, said Yosemite Superintendent Jack Morehead. But the flood of vacationers means more competition for existing parking spaces. Morehead said he is considering restoring some of the 640 parking spaces removed as a result of the 1980 Yosemite General Management plan. The new lots are being looked at in Yosemite Valley, the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias and Tuolumne Meadows.
