Two dozen ground squirrels bearing sylvatic plague have been found in the Angeles National Forest in the past month, compared to only six all of last year, said Los Angeles County health officials. Sylvatic plague carried by animals is transmitted to human beings by fleas and usually develops into bubonic plague.
