Oakland TV station KTVU-TV has pulled its advertising from the San Francisco Chronicle because TV columnist John Carman characterized the station’s 10 o’clock news as “a steamy cauldron of crime and gore.” KTVU general manager Kevin O’Brien also said that he had ordered that program and publicity information from the station no longer be provided to the newspaper. Chronicle executive editor William German said O’Brien called him last Friday to complain, and added: “His (O’Brien) saying he’s withdrawing his advertising is not going to change our minds about what we are going to put in this newspaper.”
