Artesia : Hearing on Truck Parking

Share

A public hearing is scheduled next month before the Planning Commission to prohibit commercial trucks weighing more than three tons from parking in residential areas.

The five-member commission is expected to review the proposed ordinance at its Sept. 22 meeting and make recommendations to the City Council.

The ordinance was prepared by City Atty. Steven L. Dorsey after residents complained about large trucks parking in the 1.6-square-mile bedroom city, said City Manager B. Eugene Romig.

Usually, a city regulation becomes effective a month after passage. However, this ordinance would not take effect until a year after adoption. The one-year period and three-ton limit are restrictions previously upheld by the courts, Dorsey said.
