No contaminants, poisons or drugs were found in the carton of Oceanspray cranapple juice turned over to the Sheriff’s Department because of suspected tampering, officials said Thursday.

The juice will be saved pending any further developments in the case, but the investigation is being suspended, according to Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Rich Hendrickson.

Hendrickson said that at Oceanspray’s request, a sample of the juice will be sent to the company’s research and development lab in Middleboro, Mass.

The carton of juice was purchased last weekend at The Price Club in San Marcos. The carton was found to have a needle-size hole in the middle the package’s foil-covered straw hole.

Giles Bateman, a spokesman for the Price Co., said the stores would return cases of the juice to the shelves when they received official word from the Sheriff’s Department that the juice was not contaminated.
