Rep. Jack Kemp (R-N.Y.) received a medical exemption for a shoulder injury at the peak of his pro football career with the San Diego Chargers that allowed him to continue playing while the rest of his Army Reserve unit was activated for the Berlin crisis, the Sacramento Bee reported.
