A man suspected of being one of the “Marx Brothers Bandits” surrendered to federal authorities, four months after he was mistakenly set free in Nevada. Lawrence Edward Lockridge, 57, who was accidently released from the Clark County Detention Center on April 9, was arrested on the steps of the federal courthouse in Los Angeles a few days after he telephoned an attorney and announced that he wanted to turn himself in. The lawyer, Errol Stambler, said his client decided to surrender because “he was tired of running.” He said Lockridge, a suspect with his brother, Roger, in as many as 11 armed robberies between 1984 and 1986, had supported himself since his escape by gambling in Las Vegas casinos and in California. Authorities dubbed the pair the “Marx Brothers Bandits” for their frequent use of such disguises as topcoats, curly wigs, false mustaches and eyeglasses.
