Long Beach : High-Paid Manager Moved
Carolyn Sutter, $94,000-a-year manager of the Tidelands Agency until it was dissolved in June, has been assigned temporarily to a special project in the Library Department.
City Manager James C. Hankla said Sutter’s annual salary, among the highest in city government, will be picked up in part by the Library Department. The department is absorbing a 3.6% budget cut from $11.2 million to $10.8 million this fiscal year.
Sutter’s duties will include consultation on the format of the city’s cable television channel and directing grant applications for Long Beach’s two historic ranchos, Los Cerritos and Los Alamitos, Hankla said.
Sutter will work with Cordelia Howard, who succeeded her as director of library services. Howard makes about $77,000 a year. Sutter’s boss will be Hankla, he said.
The Tidelands Agency was dissolved and its responsibilities shifted to other departments in a cost-cutting effort. Sutter was assigned to Hankla’s office but has been on vacation for two months, Hankla said.
