Fountain Valley : Man Fleeing Police Killed in Accident
A 33-year-old motorcyclist being pursued by police was killed when he ran a red light and collided with a car in an intersection, police said Thursday.
A female passenger on the motorcycle was critically injured in the Wednesday night accident, Fountain Valley Police Lt. Mike Hanrahan said.
Christopher J.P. Datre, 33, of Laguna Beach was being pursued by Huntington Beach police, and headed east on Ellis Avenue into Fountain Valley, where he ran a red light at Magnolia Street shortly after 8 p.m., broadsiding a Ford Mustang driven by a 19-year-old Huntington Beach woman, Hanrahan said.
A Huntington Beach police spokesman said Datre was being pursued as suspected drunk driver. Police said they have “yet to determine (Datre’s) sobriety.”
Datre was pronounced dead at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, where his passenger, Michelle A. Vargo, 22, of Garden Grove, was listed in critical condition Thursday.
The Mustang’s driver sustained minor injuries in the collision and was not hospitalized, police said.
The accident remains under investigation, Hanrahan said.
