The state Department of Health Services will issue long-awaited guidelines on procedures for forgoing life-sustaining medical treatments, including artificial feedings, for California’s nursing home and convalescent hospital patients. The guidelines are designed to clear up confusion about when health inspectors should question an institution’s acquiescence to such decisions.
