Another California sea otter has died in an attempt by biologists to establish a new breeding colony off San Nicolas Island. An adult female, stricken with pneumonia and placed in isolation at an aquarium in Monterey, was the fifth to die in the experiment. Autopsies on two of the otters disclosed that their deaths were stress-related.
