Pedestrian-vehicle accidents--including an apparent hit-and-run in Chula Vista--accounted for four San Diego County deaths Tuesday, county coroners said.

The body of an unidentified man between the ages of 20 and 30 was found along Interstate 5, north of Main Street in Chula Vista, at 8:20 a.m., Deputy Coroner George Dickason said. The body was found by a passer-by who had stopped to retrieve a fishing pole he saw at the side of the freeway.

The coroner’s office called the death an apparent hit-and-run accident, but will determine the exact cause of death in an autopsy.

Schou was hit by a pickup truck driven by Trinidad Lopez of Escondido. No information was available on whether Lopez was charged.

At 1:28 a.m., Vernon Earl McCormick, a 65-year-old transient, died in the Veterans Administration hospital in La Jolla of injuries suffered in a June 15 accident in the 1500 block of Rosecrans Street, Dickason said.

A fourth pedestrian was killed by a vehicle early Tuesday evening but details of the accident were not available.
