Edberg Makes Tennis Semifinals
Second-seeded Stefan Edberg overpowered unseeded Ramesh Krishnan 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 today and gained a berth in the U.S. Open semifinals for the second straight year.
Edberg, who lost to Ivan Lendl in last year’s semifinals, will meet the winner of tonight’s Miloslav Mecir-Mats Wilander match on Saturday. The Swede’s serve-and-volley attack was too much for the finesse game of the 26-year-old Indian, who was the last unseeded player left in singles play. In the other men’s semifinal Saturday, top-seeded Lendl meets No. 6 Jimmy Connors.
