The World : 25 Soccer Rioters Charged

Share

Involuntary manslaughter charges were filed against 25 British soccer fans for rioting during the 1985 European Cup final in Brussels in which 39 people were trampled to death. Each of the 25 was also charged with less-serious crimes. The 25 Britons will remain jailed in Belgium, in preventive custody through their trial, which is not expected until later this year or early next. Also on trial will be three Belgian officials for their failure to implement adequate security measures at the stadium.
