Lee Trevino, still laughing all the way to the bank as a part-time player on the PGA Tour, went on another birdie spree Friday to take a one-stroke lead in the second round of the $500,000 Bank of Boston golf tournament at Sutton, Mass.

Trevino, who will be 48 on Dec. 1, shot a four-under-par 67 for a 36-hole total of 133, nine under par on the 7,110-yard Pleasant Valley Country Club course. Money leader Curtis Strange, who shared the first-round lead with John Mahaffey and Ray Stewart, had a 69 and was at 134.

At 135 were Gene Sauers, Clarence Rose, Jay Haas, Larry Rinker, Sam Randolph, Steve Pate and Wayne Grady. Paul Azinger led a group at 136 that also included Dave Eichelberger, Buddy Gardner and Mahaffey, who slipped to a 71.

Chris Johnson sank birdie putts on four of the first five holes en route to a five-under-par 67 and a one-stroke lead in the $225,000 Cellular One-Ping tournament at Portland, Ore.

Jan Stephenson, seeking her first LPGA victory since breaking three ribs in an auto accident four months ago, was tied with Patti Rizzo for second at 68.

Chi Chi Rodriguez will take a one-stroke lead into today’s second round of the rain-shortened World Seniors Invitational tournament at Charlotte, N.C.

The tournament was reduced to 54 holes after being rained out Friday, with 18 holes to be played today and another 18 holes Sunday.

Bernhard Langer shot a five-under-par 67 in the rain to take the lead after two rounds of the $350,000 European Open at Walton Heath, England.
