The Alexander Family Murders

Mr. Ciotti obviously spent a good deal of time researching this sensational article, which was certainly graphic in its gruesome detail. Unfortunately, there was a rather misleading statement that needs to be addressed: “The officers of the LAPD’s South Bureau CRASH unit were not surprised to find the Rolling 60s carrying high-powered weapons. They are, police say, perhaps the most violent black gang in the city, controlling everything from Western Avenue west to Fox Hills Mall, from Slauson south to Florence.” These two sentences give the impression that a street gang “controls” Fox Hills Mall. Nothing could be further from the truth. Fox Hills Mall is owned and operated by The Hahn Co., the largest shopping-center developer on the West Coast. It is 10 years old and very well established in the community of Culver City. It is staffed by a well-trained group of shopping-center management professionals and is one of the company’s most consistently successful shopping centers catering to the diverse needs of the Westside Los Angeles shopper. It is a convenient and safe place to shop and has excellent freeway access and parking facilities.

Los Angeles is a large city, and crime is a concern to everyone. We realize we have a responsibility to the community and to our shoppers to provide as safe a shopping environment as possible. Therefore, Fox Hills has a well-trained group of security officers and the Culver City Police Department has a successful impact team who patrol the mall 24 hours a day.
