Santa Ana : Nominations Sought for Advisory Committee

Share

Residents and property and business owners in the proposed Bristol Corridor redevelopment area can nominate themselves Wednesday for a committee that will advise the city on the project.

The proposed 900-acre redevelopment area includes land along 1st, 5th and 17th streets, the Santa Ana River channel and Bristol Street.

A major street-widening project planned for Bristol Street will force out many businesses and homes in the next few years, and the redevelopment area will allow the city to make up parcels attractive to developers from the remaining land, project manager Patti Nunn said.

A 25-member Project Area Committee will be formed in the next two weeks to advise the City Council and Redevelopment Commission on the scope of the project. At this point, there are no plans for any particular project within the redevelopment area, Nunn said.

Of the 25 committee spots, 13 are reserved for residents of the redevelopment area (10 owners and three tenants) and seven for business people. They will be elected on Sept. 24 from those who nominate themselves at Wednesday’s meeting.

The City Council will appoint members of interested community groups to the remaining five positions.

Wednesday’s meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Rancho Santiago College, Room U204. Those seeking more information or who want to determine if they qualify for the committee may call Nunn at (714) 647-5360.
