Wynalda Leads San Diego State Over Chapman, 4-0

Forward Eric Wynalda had a goal and an assist to lead host San Diego State to a 4-0 nonconference men’s soccer win over Chapman Sunday.

Wynalda, a freshman from Westlake Village, assisted Ken Taylor on the Aztecs’ first goal, a header off a corner kick at 33:14.

SDSU held a 1-0 lead at the half, but scored three goals in seven minutes early in the second period. Curt Lewis scored from 25 yards out at 62:12. Chris Keenan then connected on a penalty kick at 68:18, before Wynalda finished the scoring with a 15-yarder at 69:23.

The Aztecs (3-2), ranked 11th in Division I, outshot the Panthers, 21-6. Chapman fell to 2-2.

Cal State Northridge 2, USIU 1--Cal State Northridge snapped United States International University’s 23-game home winning streak.

USIU (2-1) hadn’t lost at home since Oct. 24, 1984 when Nevada Las Vegas defeated the Gulls, 2-1.

Northridge (5-0) got both goals from Joey Kirk, who scored at the 36:29 mark and the 51:09 mark. The latter goal was on a penalty kick.

USIU’s Gary Francis scored with 48 seconds remaining in the game.

In women’s soccer:

UC San Diego 3, Claremont-Mudd 0--Heather Marrow and Stephanie Savoy combined for three assists to lead UCSD at home. UCSD (3-1) outshot Claremont-Mudd, 36-6.
