The strong demand for VideoCipher satellite TV signal decoder devices was cited in parent General Instrument Corp.’s announcement that its revenues were up 71% and net income more than tripled for the fiscal second quarter ended Aug. 30.

VideoCipher, whose operations are based in Sorrento Valley, has increased its production of decoders to 50,000 per month, with enough manufacturing capacity to double the rate expected on stream by October. More than 40 TV programmers have selected the VideoCipher system to encrypt their programming signals.
