Long Beach : Protest Filed on UAW Vote

Bob Berghoff, defeated in his Sept. 1 run for a third term as president of UAW Local 148 at Douglas Aircraft Co., has filed a protest to overturn the election. Berg-hoff, who narrowly lost to Doug Griffith after a bitter campaign, has appealed to the U. S. Department of Labor, which conducted the election and will now investigate the complaint, he said.

That department’s report will be forwarded to U. S. District Court Judge A. Wallace Tashima, who must certify the election. Tashima’s ruling can be appealed by Berghoff to the U. S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

United Auto Workers Local 148 in Long Beach represents about 10,000 Douglas workers and 5,000 retirees.
