Norwalk : School Budget Approved

Share

The $65-million 1987-88 budget approved unanimously last week by the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District Board of Education is $2 million higher than last year’s. School administrators said the new budget contains no major additions or cuts to programs.

Much of the extra $2 million comes from a state cost-of-living increase and will allow the district to meet rising costs of utilities, fringe benefits and salaries, according to Howard Rainey, district business administrator. The additional money “hardly keeps us even,” he said. With pay negotiations with teachers still under way, the district does not know how much salaries will increase this year.
