Costa Mesa : Teen-Ager Suffers Skull Fracture in Accident
A Newport Beach teen-ager suffered a skull fracture as his motor scooter crashed into a pickup truck Wednesday morning, police said.
Andrew Ralph Wilcox, 17, was northbound on Placentia Avenue near Congress Street shortly after 8 a.m. when he tried to pass a pickup truck on the right side, Sgt. Alan Kent said. Wilcox’s scooter struck the pickup truck as the truck made a right turn into a driveway, Kent said.
Wilcox, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the scooter and landed on a sidewalk, striking his head, Kent said. The teen-ager was taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital where he was listed in serious condition. The driver of the truck was not cited, Kent said.
