Duke’s 23rd Ace Recorded in Hawaii
Donna Duke, the 57-year-old Camarillo golfer with a propensity for making holes-in-one, continued her remarkable string with the 23rd ace of her career.
After placing fifth in a women’s golf tournament in Hawaii, Duke aced the 12th hole in a practice round at the Waikoloa Village golf course in Kona. She used a 9-iron on the 96-yard, par-3 hole for her first ace in six months.
“She certainly did make the shot,” said Jeff Kubo, a club professional at the Waikoloa Village course. “Two ladies playing in front of her threesome, Vicky Thornton and Toni Paulo, verified it.”
Duke, who carries a 12-handicap, had placed fifth last week in a field of 144 golfers in a 36-hole tournament sponsored by the women’s Public Links Golf Assn. of Southern California.
