Smart, Chic Fashions Fit for a Pope

Share

Smart hats, chic suits, and low-key dresses were among the fashion choices of Orange County society women who attended Pope John Paul II’s Mass at the Los Angeles Coliseum on Tuesday.

Seen hobnobbing down front before Mass were arts activist Marcy Mulville in a teal-blue silk shirtwaist, and ultra-hostess Floss Schumacher, who kept busy-busy snapping keepsake photos in her three-piece, white cotton dress and black-and-white polka-dot hat.

Pacific Symphony devotee Carole Gilano--looking very Jackie-O in owl-eye shades, a houndstooth-checked suit with schoolgirl-grosgrain in her hair--waved crossed fingers just before the symphony performed during the pre-Mass celebration.

Also there for the papal Mass were Newport Beach businesswoman Marnie Fluor-Reed, decked out in a mock turtleneck, sleeveless black knit; socialite Deann Baldwin in a patina-green ensemble with salmon silk blouse, and Dolly Karcher in goldenrod silk.

Emma Jane Riley, wife of Orange County Supervisor Thomas F. Riley, suitably subdued in a charcoal gray suit, received Communion from the Pope.
