L.A. JAZZ SOCIETY HONORS SIX PLAYERS

The Los Angeles Jazz Society recognized six Los Angeles jazz musicians at its fifth-annual Jazz Tribute and Awards Concert Sunday at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

The Tribute Award, the highest commendation, was presented to tuba player and bassist Red Callender. Other honorees included Marshal Royal, an alto saxophonist, recognized for lifetime achievement; coronet player John Rinaldo, named jazz educator of the year; Mike Fahn, a valve trombonist who received the new jazz award and Johnny Mandel recieved the jazz composer/arranger award. Composer/arranger Victor Feldman was honored posthumously.
