Rose Float Builder Holds Children’s Essay Competition for L.B. Centennial

For the fourth consecutive year, Festival Artists Inc. will construct the city’s float for the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year’s Day. In celebrating the parade’s theme and the city’s upcoming centennial, Festival Artists is sponsoring an essay contest through Oct. 31.

The contest theme is “Thanks to Communications, Long Beach Celebrates 100 Years of Achievements.” Entries can be mailed to: Essay Contest, Festival Artists, 120 N. Aspan Ave., Azusa, Calif., 91702.

Open to all fourth- through sixth-graders in the Long Beach Unified School District, submitted essays should be limited to 200 words or less. A five-member panel will judge essays based on originality, creativity, theme, grammar, punctuation and completeness of instruction.

Contestants will be eligible to win two tickets to the Rose Parade and brunch for four aboard the Queen Mary, a trip for two to Catalina Island and a Buffums gift certificate.
