Motorcyclist Dies After Hitting Turning Car
A Mission Hills motorcyclist was killed when he struck a car turning in front of him Saturday in Granada Hills, Los Angeles police reported.
Earl Lyon, 21, was pronounced dead shortly after the 5:10 p.m. accident, Sgt. Dennis Zine said.
Lyon was riding north on Balboa Boulevard at 60 to 85 m.p.h. when he struck a southbound automobile as it turned left at Plummer Street, Zine said.
The car’s driver, Winifred Nicholas, 71, of Arleta, was not cited because an incline in the road made it unlikely that she could have seen Lyon at the speed he was traveling, Zine said.
Lyon, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown about 40 feet before landing on the pavement, the officer said.
