The father of a 14-year-old Santee boy who arranged for the boy 21 sexual liaisons with a woman was sentenced Monday to seven years and four months in state prison.

Clifford Neal Wimberly, 37, of Santee, apologized for his conduct to San Diego Superior Court Judge Wayne Peterson during the sentencing in which his wife, son, daughter and many family friends attended.

He had just returned from a three-month stay at Chino State Prison. Officials there made an undisclosed recommendation to the judge about Wimberly’s sentencing.

“I know what I did was wrong. I know my problem was connected with drugs and alcohol,” Wimberly told the judge.

His attorney, Robert Slatten, asked for a sentence of time served, which was almost a year in custody, and probation.

The boy testified at his father’s preliminary hearing that he had been having sex with Carole Swenson, 23, of El Cajon, in various motels since he was 11. His father took pictures of the sexual encounters, which were entered as evidence.

Slatten argued that Wimberly should also be placed on probation like Swenson, who was sentenced July 17 to one year in jail and fined $300.

But the judge was not persuaded by Slatten’s arguments.

“I’m unsatisfied rehabilitation is feasible, given the attitudes of the defendant,” said the judge.

Peterson fined Wimberly $300 and gave him credit for almost a year spent in jail. He said Wimberly had also furnished methamphetamine to the boy.

Wimberly pleaded guilty April 17 to aiding and abetting lewd acts with a minor and furnishing marijuana to his son.
