Shut-Ins
I’d like to say a public word of appreciation for the dedicated volunteers who provide the Los Angeles Public Library’s Service to Shut-ins.
While convalescing from recent knee surgery I ran across the number of this service in the telephone book. A call put me in touch with a man who cheerfully searched out the volumes I wanted, got them from the branch library, delivered them to me and returned them when I had finished, bringing me new choices each time. Each appointment involved his walking several miles--he’s fit, and insists he loves the walk. Besides bringing me books, he made excellent suggestions about others I’d enjoy.
My only regret about complete recovery is that I’ll no longer have contact with this gentleman and the others who work in the program and realize how essential reading is to disabled people who love to read.
Many thanks!
