Garden Grove : Council Gives Blessing to Korean Sister City
Garden Grove, home to Orange County’s largest Korean community, has adopted Anyan, South Korea, as its Sister City.
The Garden Grove City Council gave its official blessing last week, paving the way for educational, cultural and business exchanges for the two cities. According to city spokesman John Bushman, officials of Anyan, a business and industrial city of 240,000 on the outskirts of Seoul, first approached Garden Grove about the idea because of the city’s growing Korean community. Koreans make up 10% of the Garden Grove’s population of 134,000.
The council approved a $1,000 allocation to get the project rolling, with $475 earmarked for Garden Grove to join Sister City International, an organization that assists and encourages relationships between U.S. communities and cities around the world.
