Atty. Gen. John K. Van de Kamp closed his investigation into the activities of Ron E. Koenig, chairman of the state Board of Prison Terms, who, as a former sheriff of Tehama County, was accused of a multitude of crimes. Jerry Clemons, director of the office’s Division of Law Enforcement, said he could not find “one piece of evidence” to substantiate charges that Koenig received bribes for permitting marijuana cultivation, concealed evidence in a cultivation investigation, thwarted a homicide investigation, was involved in child pornography and had covered up evidence in unsolved murder and narcotics trafficking cases. Koenig also had been cleared in earlier investigations by the Tehama County Grand Jury, the FBI and by Van de Kamp’s office.
