This city’s 1986 pedestrian safety accomplishments will be recognized Monday when Mayor Marvin Graves accepts a Pedestrian Safety Citation from the Automobile Club of Southern California at the City Council’s 7:30 p.m. meeting in council chambers, 7100 S. Garfield Ave.

The annual award was earned in the American Automobile Assn.’s 48th annual Pedestrian Protection Program, which involved 439 U.S. cities of 25,000 to 50,000 population. Bell Gardens had no pedestrian fatalities during the year, whereas communities of similar size averaged 1.8 per 100,000 population. This marks the sixth time the city has received AAA recognition.
