County : Mobile Health Clinic Is Put Back in Service
A mobile health clinic is back in operation and for the first time prenatal care will be offered in one of the cities served.
The Community Development Council’s doctor’s office on wheels, a service provided to county residents, had not been circulating since January, when its use was halted by liability insurance problems, according to Jim Hamlett, a public information officer.
The office on wheels provides general medical care to low- and fixed-income residents in 18 cities in Orange County. A $5 donation is suggested, but service is provided free if residents can’t afford to pay, Hamlett said.
The mobile clinic is in service five days a week at community and senior citizens centers. Hours vary in different cities but usually are from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Physicians from the UCI Medical Residency Program, a medical technician and a nurse run the mobile unit.
New sites on the schedule are: San Juan School, 31642 E. Camino Real, San Juan Capistrano, which is the only site to offer prenatal care; Laguna Beach Senior Center, 384 Legion St., Laguna Beach, and Mission Hills Christian Center, Vintage Goods Thrift Shop, 24601 Raymond Way, El Toro.
The mobile unit also serves Costa Mesa, Santa Ana, Anaheim, Huntington Beach, Buena Park, La Habra, Orange, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Tustin and Irvine.
