Child, 2, Injured by Truck in Lakeside
A 2-year-old child was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident Wednesday when she ran into a Lakeside street and was struck by a pickup truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Crystal Batt of Lakeside was in critical condition at the pediatric trauma center of Children’s Hospital, said Vince Bond, a hospital spokesman.
She and other children were playing on the sidewalk along Lake Shore Drive, near Channel Road, when she ran into the street about 6 p.m. and was struck by the truck, according to the highway patrol. The vehicle then left the scene, officials said.
Authorities were searching for the driver of the tan pickup.
