From Associated Press

A window was smashed and eggs were hurled at a van carrying substitute players to the Los Angeles Rams’ training camp in Anaheim today, marring an otherwise peaceful day of picketing in the NFL strike.

The Rams, picketing for the first time in the three-day strike, rudely greeted 28 players signed to play games if the walkout continues.

One of the striking players, who was not identified, slammed a fist through the window of the van, spraying shattered glass inside. There were no injuries.

Rams’ linebacker Mel Owens said, although he didn’t condone the incident: “I’m from Detroit. I grew up with the UAW and Teamsters. It gets to be a pretty ugly business.”

Doug Reed, a defensive end for the Rams, tossed eggs at the vans and shouted, “Go home, strikebreakers.”
