GREATEST LOVE:

While “La Bamba,” the life story of the late singer Ritchie Valens, is still packing ‘em in at movie theaters, its producer, Taylor Hackford, is working on a “musical biography” of the late lyricist Linda Creed.

Creed died last year of breast cancer, one month before Whitney Houston’s recording of the Creed/Michael Masser composition “Greatest Love of All” hit No. 1. In the ‘70s, Creed collaborated with Thom Bell on a string of hits for the Spinners and the Stylistics that all but defined the “Sound of Philadelphia.”

The film--for Warner Bros.--is expected to feature both original hit versions and new recordings of Creed’s songs, as well as some previously unrecorded Creed material. Joel Sill is serving as music supervisor and executive producer of the film.

“It’s a rich and poignant story, with a lot of great music,” said Hackford, who has become the king of movie music in the ‘80s. Five songs from such Hackford movies as “An Officer and a Gentleman” and “White Nights” have hit No. 1 on the pop charts in the past five years.
