Nine elderly tenants were evacuated from a Hollywood apartment building believed near collapse and housed at a hotel through the help of the Red Cross. The tenants were evacuated from the apartment building at 1723 N. Wilcox Ave. when Los Angeles city building and safety officials determined the structure was unsafe because adjacent construction was undermining the building’s foundation, a city Fire Department spokesman said. A Red Cross spokesman said the tenants, who lived in the aging structure because of its low rents, will be lodged at a local hotel through the weekend. Red Cross workers Monday will help the displaced tenants find more permanent accommodations, the spokesman said.
