The State : Woman Wins $9.6 Million

Share

A woman who has worked nearly 25 years in a San Joaquin Valley soup factory was the winner of a $9.6-million Lotto 6/49 prize in the California Lottery. Judy Griffen of Escalon wasn’t the first to find out that she had become an instant multimillionaire. She was out of the house, playing bingo, and her husband, Milton, who had bought the Lotto ticket at a convenience store after she selected the numbers, was watching television and realized his wife had picked the winning combination. Judy Griffen said she will continue working at Campbell’s Soup until her 25th anniversary with the company next April. “I want to be able to say that I did it,” she said. Milton, a retired dairy farmer, said the big win has affected his wife “more than it’s affected me. . . . We don’t know how we’re going to spend the money.”
