Local News in Brief : Shot Hits Mayor’s Car

Share

A shot from a pellet gun Wednesday shattered the left rear window of a car driven by Lawndale Mayor Sarann Kruse, a Los Angeles County sheriff’s spokesman said.

“We don’t see it as anything political,” Deputy Hal Grant said. “There have been no recent threats made against the mayor and she said nobody has reason to harm her. It’s just more random violence.”

Kruse, who was not injured in the 7:15 a.m. incident in the 4200 block of 154th Street, said she heard a loud noise and, “I thought it was a car backfiring . . . I drove for about a block before I stopped to see what the noise was. That’s when I saw that the window had been shattered.”

The Sheriff’s Department said it was the 84th shooting on a Los Angeles County road this year.

“I’m a good person,” said Kruse, who has been on the City Council since 1976 and mayor of the South Bay city since 1982. “No one would want to shoot at me.”
