Local News in Brief : Sale of Toy Guns Banned
The City of Burbank has formally imposed a ban on the sale of toy guns that resemble real weapons.
The law, approved 4 to 1 Tuesday night by the City Council, makes Burbank the first city in the country to impose such a ban on facsimile firearms within its city limits.
A retailer who sells such toys could face either a six-month jail term or a $500 fine, or both, City Atty. Douglas C. Holland said.
The law is slated to become effective in January, after toy sellers have a chance to deplete their current toy gun supplies.
