The Salinas franchise in the California League was sold to Bobby Brett, brother of Kansas City Royals infielder George Brett and former major league pitcher Ken Brett.

Bobby Brett of Hermosa Beach bought the club from Jay Goldinger of Beverly Hills. No purchase price was disclosed. Bobby Brett also owns the Spokane franchise in the Class A Northwest League.

No decision has been reached yet as to where the team will play in 1988. Aside from Salinas, other cities mentioned as possible locations are Riverside, Ontario, Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo.
