Local News in Brief : Woody Herman Critical
Bandleader Woody Herman remained hospitalized in critical condition Monday, a hospital spokesman said.
The 74-year-old jazz great, suffering from heart and lung ailments, was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles last Thursday with congestive heart failure, emphysema and pneumonia.
“There’s no change in Woody’s condition,” hospital spokesman Ron Wise said.
Herman, winner of three Grammys, gained fame and wealth in the 1930s and for half a century was the leader of a rotating group of musicians whose furious pacing won them the name the “Thundering Herd.”
