Local News in Brief : Accord on Pets in the Park
Hoping to help settle a 2-year-old dispute, the Los Angeles Animal Regulation Commission has voted to support a proposal by City Councilman Mike Woo that would allow dogs to run free during certain hours in Laurel Canyon Park for a six-month trial period.
Woo’s so-called time-sharing plan, which still must go before the Recreation and Park Commission and the full City Council, represents a compromise in a long-running feud between pet owners and neighboring residents who oppose having unleashed dogs in the Santa Monica Mountains park. Under the proposal, dogs would be allowed to run free in the park from dawn until 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. until the park closes at 10:30 p.m.
