KPFK-FM, a Los Angeles nonprofit listener-supported station, enjoyed a record fund-raising year despite its running battle with the Federal Communications Commission over the allegedly indecent broadcast of the gay-themed radio play “The Jerker” last year. The station ended its fiscal year last month with $547,550 in pledges, or a 26% increase over last year. The Pacifica Foundation network member said the contribution surge was due to its Iran- contra hearing coverage. An FCC ruling on the matter is expected later this month.
