No Surprises in the Weather This Weekend

After surviving Santa Ana winds that sent temperatures soaring to record highs last weekend, San Diegans can relax over the next few days, as forecasters promise milder temperatures with increasing night and early-morning low clouds. Afternoons will be sunny today and Saturday. And it might even drizzle Sunday.

“We should see much cooler temperatures in contrast to last weekend, with low clouds expected to burn off by the early afternoon, through Saturday,” National Weather Service forecaster Frank Perdue said.

County residents got a healthy dose of a summer that wasn’t last weekend, when Santa Ana winds blew in record temperatures that rose to 104 degrees Saturday and 97 degrees Sunday at Lindbergh Field, Perdue said.

“Last Saturday was the second hottest ever in the month of October,” Perdue said. The record was 107 degrees set on Oct. 14, 1961.

The expected drop this weekend in temperatures and the entry of low clouds is the result of a low-pressure system off San Francisco that’s gradually making its way into San Diego though “weakening before it arrives,” Perdue said.

Sunday could be a day of “drizzles” due to Hurricane Ramon, stirring 450 miles south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas, according to Janice Roth, a meteorologist at WeatherData, which provides forecasts for The Times.

“San Diego may become influenced by Ramon on Sunday,” Perdue said. “If so, we’ll see an increase of mid- and high-level cloudiness, with the chance of rain on Sunday or Monday. Mostly, we should see cloudy skies all day Sunday.”

San Diego surfers won’t be complaining as Ramon brings 5- to 8-foot waves.
