A 15-year-old Vista boy was killed when the car he was riding in slammed into a signal pole early Friday morning, said Leonard Geise, a traffic investigator with the Escondido Police Department.
Brandon Figueroa was taken to Palomar Hospital, where he died at 3:32 a.m., Geise said.
The accident occurred at Quince Street and 2nd Avenue. David Daggett, 22, also of Vista, was driving the car through the intersection when he veered off the road and struck the pole, Geise said.
Daggett was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was taken to Palomar Hospital for jaw injuries and is in stable condition, a hospital nursing supervisor said.
