Vista 21, Poway 7--Vista quarterback Billy Faraimo rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another at Poway (0-2, 2-2-1). Quarterback Mike Beam threw a 21-yard pass to Brad Herzog for Poway’s touchdown on its first drive. Vista (2-0, 4-1) scored its first touchdown with 25 seconds remaining in the half when Faraimo scored on a 62-yard option run.

Fallbrook 31, San Dieguito 6--Quarterback Mike Turiace, the county’s leading passer, completed 25 of 36 passes for 367 yards and three touchdowns to lead Fallbrook (1-1, 3-2) at home. Turiace threw a 15-yard scoring pass to Darrow Nelson on Fallbrook’s opening series. Nelson had 9 receptions for 144 yards. Turiace also threw touchdown passes of 20 yards to Jeff Pack and 33 yards to Aaron Tapia. San Dieguito is 0-1 and 2-3.

AVOCADO El Camino 36, San Marcos 10--Quarterback Eric Robinson threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more to lead El Camino (2-0, 3-2) at San Marcos. Robinson scored on 75 and 8 yard runs and threw touchdown passes of 15 and 20 yards to Freddie Spears. Eddie Miller added a touchdown on a two-yard run for El Camino. Chris Pope scored on a two-yard run for San Marcos (1-1, 1-2-2).

Carlsbad 20, Ramona 6--Quarterback Thad MacNeal ran eight yards for a touchdown and added a two-point conversion to lead Carlsbad (1-1, 3-2) at home. Miguel Perez scored on a 26-yard reception from quarterback Troy Guerra, and Danny George added another touchdown on a one-yard run for Carlsbad. Ramona is 1-1, 2-3.

San Pasqual 22, Escondido 21--San Pasqual linebacker Ric Aschbrenner intercepted a pass on the San Pasqual 26-yard line with two minutes left to seal the win. With 4:30 left, senior Chris Nottoli kicked a 15-yard field goal to give San Pasqual (1-4) the lead. Nottoli also caught four passes for 81 yards. San Pasqual’s Juan Garcia ran for 196 yards and 2 touchdowns, one on a 80-yard run. Escondido (0-5) had a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown from Gabe Sanchez.

Oceanside 14, Rancho Buena Vista 14--Ken Akuso scored on a seven-yard run and Sibian Fiumano threw to Fred Dunn for the two-point conversion to give Oceanside (1-0-1, 1-2-2) a tie. Dwayne Wilson ran 20 yards after recovering a fumble for Oceanside’s first touchdown. Rancho Buena Vista is 0-1-1, 1-3-1.

GROSSMONT 3-A Helix 28, Santana 0--Spike Mitchell had 97 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. Quarterback Tim Zeddies was 4 of 5 for 86 yards but went out with an injury. Replacement Danny Tiumalu threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Todd Sheehan in the third quarter to make the score 21-0.

COASTAL Bishop’s 41, Francis Parker 23--Tom Phanco completed 9 of 14 pass attempts for 241 yards and 4 touchdowns in Bishop’s win at home. Phanco’s four-yard touchdown pass to Rick Boynton in the fourth quarter gave Bishop’s (2-0, 4-1) a 27-23 lead. Boynton caught three passes, all for touchdowns, and had 116 yards receiving. Francis Parker quarterback Will Beamer ran for one touchdown and threw for two others. Parker is 1-1, 3-1.

NONLEAGUE Mount Miguel 35, El Capitan 21--Mount Miguel (5-0) led, 14-0, at halftime, and then played El Capitan even the rest of the way. Anthony Williams scored Mount Miguel’s first-half touchdowns on runs of 13 and 10 yards. In the second half for El Capitan (4-1), Bryan Palmer scored on runs of 56 and 5 yards and Andy Johns added a one-yard run.

USDHS 42, San Diego 3--Although San Diego (0-5) trailed, 42-0, before scoring, those points came on the first field goal in San Diego Section history by a girl. Mia Labovitz, a junior attempting the first field goal of her high school career, kicked a 32-yarder with 50 seconds remaining. San Diego’s team cleared the bench and mobbed her at midfield, pounding on her so hard she was later taken to the hospital with a migraine headache. For USDHS (5-0), running back Brian Duplesis gained 104 yards on 10 carries and scored on a nine-yard run. Receiver John Montali had two catches for 63 yards and a 19-yard touchdown.

Chula Vista 43, Hilltop 6--Paul Geering completed 9 of 13 pass attempts for 187 yards and 2 touchdowns at Chula Vista (3-0-2). Geering threw scoring passes of 17 yards to Steve Trainor and 53 yards to Shawn Miranda. Geering also scored on a one-yard run. Miranda caught 4 passes for 116 yards and Marquis Howard ran 19 times for 106 yards. Paul Costello ran 13 times for 86 yards for Hilltop (0-4).

St. Augustine 10, Mission Bay 7--Backup quarterback Doug Carter threw for 224 yards, including a 72-yard touchdown pass to Joey Erpelding, to lead St. Augustine (3-2) at Mission Bay. Starter Tony Stanich was removed after seven plays because of illness. Bob Piconi broke a 7-7 tie with a 22-yard field goal in the third quarter. Chris Hernandez ran for a two-yard touchdown in the first quarter for Mission Bay (1-4).

La Jolla 28, Hoover 2--John Tribolet ran for one touchdown, passed for another and intercepted two passes at La Jolla (4-1). Tribolet completed 6 of 7 pass attempts for 91 yards, including a six-yard touchdown pass to Sean Edwards in the fourth quarter. His touchdown run was a four-yarder in the first period. La Jolla’s other two scores both came on fumble returns, a 22-yarder by Jerry Walker in the first quarter and a 31-yarder by Brent Woodall in the fourth quarter. Hoover (1-4) had 30 yards rushing and minus 11 yards passing for 19 yards in total offense.

Christian 7, Castle Park 0--Nose guard Steve Anderson returned an interception 10 yards in the second quarter to lead Christian (2-3) at Castle Park (0-2-2).

Montgomery 22, Mar Vista 7--Mike Burgos passed for two touchdowns and linebacker Victor Padilla sacked Mar Vista quarterback Jon Amaya for a safety to lead Montgomery (1-0, 2-3) at Mar Vista. In the second quarter, Burgos threw touchdown passes of 26 yards to Greg Sallee and 10 yards to Cid White. Montgomery kicker Antonio Padilla kicked fourth-quarter field goals of 28 and 25 yards. Tony Mendivil scored the only touchdown for Mar Vista (0-1, 3-2) on a one-yard run.

Granite Hills 14, Valhalla 7--Brian Giles ran 26 times for 149 yards and 1 touchdown to lead Granite Hills (2-3) at Monte Vista. Granite Hills took a 7-0 lead on a one-yard run by Brandt Glasner in the second quarter. Valhalla (1-4) tied the game with a 76-yard touchdown pass from quarterback David Kilpatrick to Jeff Lapinski, also in the second quarter. Giles ran eight yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Orange Glen 22, Madison 14--Quarterback Sean Gousha threw touchdowns passes of 26 and 6 yards to wide receiver Jake Nyberg to lead Orange Glen (3-2-1) at home. Madison is 1-3-1.

Mira Mesa 22, Kearny 7--Quarterback Eddie Allison connected with receiver Randy Williams for fourth-quarter touchdowns passes of six and three yards to lead Mira Mesa (4-1). Allison was 5 for 12 for 45 yards as Mira Mesa expanded a 9-7 halftime lead over Kearny (0-5). Senior running back Ricky Hanson added 103 yards on 20 carried for Mira Mesa.

Crawford 17, Clairemont 13--Jeremy Horton scored on an 11-yard pass from Keith Gilbert in the third quarter to give Crawford (3-2) the victory at Madison. Jamie Williams scored on a two-yard run and Danny Murphy kicked a 35-yard field goal for Crawford. Jeff Davis threw two touchdown passes for Clairemont (3-2), a 12-yard pass to Ray McDavid and a 42-yarder to Cercy Moore.

Brawley 43, El Cajon Valley 27--Quarterback Joe Jimenez rushed for 132 yards and 1 touchdown to lead the Wildcats (4-1). Johnny Carrillo had two touchdowns for Brawley. El Cajon Valley is 2-3.

Coronado 9, Western Christian 6--Coronado escaped a tie when a Western Christian field goal attempt with eight seconds left went wide at Coronado. Eric Turner ran 16 yards for a touchdown to cap Coronado’s opening 57-yard drive. In the second quarter, Rich Bledsoe kicked a 40-yard field goal to give Coronado (5-0) a 9-0 lead.
