Local News in Brief : Deputy Faces Fraud Count

Share

A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of insurance fraud stemming from an accident between two buses in a company he owns, California Sun Line Tours.

Willie Snowden, 39, of Compton, an 11-year employee of the department assigned to the Court Services Division, which provides bailiffs and lockup supervision, was suspended from his duties, sheriff’s Deputy Brian Williams said. Arraignment was set for Oct. 29 for Snowden, who was released on his own recognizance.

He allegedly switched the license plates and vehicle identification numbers of two uninsured buses involved in a June 19, 1987, collision on the San Bernardino Freeway in Alhambra with two buses that were covered by Firemen’s Fund Insurance Company. The insurance company then paid a $23,000 claim on one of the buses.
